Hotel Lycium Debrecen has reopened in January 2026 after a full renovation exceeding HUF 1 billion, as Debrecen4U reported.
The property now operates under Accor’s Handwritten Collection, becoming the first hotel outside Budapest to join the brand.
The upgrade—completed in eleven months by the SZINORG Group—modernised all guest rooms, public areas, technical systems, and conference facilities. The hotel now features 92 refurbished rooms, an 80‑seat restaurant, the Palette Lounge Bar, and five conference rooms for up to 200 participants. Its direct link to the Kölcsey Centre and cooperation with Mercure Debrecen significantly expand the city’s MICE capacity.
City leaders highlighted the project as a strategic step in strengthening Debrecen’s role as Hungary’s “second capital” and a growing hub for business and conference tourism. Accor representatives emphasised Hungary’s importance within the group’s regional portfolio and noted the strong potential of Debrecen’s expanding economic and cultural ecosystem.
SZINORG and Debreceni Vagyonkezelő Zrt. underlined that the renovation creates long‑term value for the city, combining modern hospitality standards with a renewed focus on business events. The partnership aims to position Debrecen as Eastern Hungary’s leading conference destination.
The reopening ceremony concluded with the signing of a cooperation agreement between the City of Debrecen, Accor, SZINORG, and Főnix Rendezvényszervező Kft., marking the start of a new chapter for the hotel and the region’s tourism sector.
