Debrecen’s transformation into one of Hungary’s fastest-growing economic centres continues to attract new service providers, with HR and workforce management becoming increasingly important as the region’s labour market expands.
Hungarian-owned Pensum Group — a nationwide HR service provider operating in Hungary, Austria and Germany — has opened a new office in Debrecen, marking its second location outside the capital and its third office in the country.
The new branch officially opened in the city centre on 27 February 2026, bringing the company’s comprehensive human resources services closer to businesses and workers in eastern Hungary.
From Family Business to International Presence
Pensum Group began more than 25 years ago as a family business, and has since evolved into a multinational HR services company. Today it operates across three European countries and holds the distinction of being the only Hungarian-owned HR service provider listed on the stock exchange.
Its services cover a broad range of workforce-related activities, including recruitment, staffing solutions, HR consulting and employment services.
The company’s leadership says expanding into Debrecen reflects both the city’s rapid development and the growing need for professional HR support in regional labour markets.
Debrecen’s Economic Rise
At the opening ceremony, Tamás Hadházy, co-owner of Pensum Group, emphasised the importance of Central and Eastern Europe as a growth region, highlighting Debrecen as a particularly dynamic example.
Over the past decade, the city has attracted significant investment across multiple sectors, including automotive manufacturing, logistics, technology and higher education. These developments have helped transform Debrecen into a major economic, cultural and innovation hub within Hungary.
“Debrecen’s development clearly creates the right environment for a service provider like us,” Hadházy said. “We believe that with our experience — both domestically and internationally — we can become valuable members of this community.”
The company plans to initially operate the office with three employees, focusing on serving the workforce needs of companies in the region.
Supporting a Growing Labour Market
Debrecen’s leadership has been actively promoting economic development as a cornerstone of the city’s long-term strategy.
At the opening event, Ákos Balázs, Deputy Mayor of Debrecen, said the city’s development model aims to provide residents with a strong vision for the future, including opportunities in education, employment, family life and culture.
Economic expansion, he noted, is essential to sustaining these ambitions.
“In recent years and decades there has been a particularly strong commitment to economic development,” Balázs said. “But it is just as important that young people can find good jobs — and that employees and employers can find each other.”
As Debrecen attracts more companies and investment projects, matching skilled workers with employers is becoming an increasingly important challenge.
HR service providers like Pensum Group play a role in facilitating that process by helping companies navigate recruitment, workforce planning and labour market dynamics.
HR Services Following Industrial Growth
The opening of the new office reflects a broader trend: as regional economies expand, the demand for specialised service providers tends to follow.
Debrecen has seen significant industrial investment in recent years, including major manufacturing projects and logistics developments. These investments often require thousands of employees and complex recruitment processes.
Companies entering the region frequently rely on HR agencies to help source talent, manage workforce transitions and navigate regulatory frameworks.
By establishing a local presence, Pensum Group aims to respond more quickly to these needs and strengthen its position within the Hungarian HR services market.
Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability
Alongside its business expansion, Pensum Group says it remains committed to corporate social responsibility.
The company places particular emphasis on environmental sustainability and employee health, reflecting broader trends within the HR sector toward responsible business practices and workplace wellbeing.
These initiatives form part of the company’s long-term strategy as it continues to grow its presence in Hungary and internationally.
A Sign of Debrecen’s Continued Growth
For Debrecen, the arrival of another national service provider underscores the city’s rising importance within Hungary’s economic landscape.
Once known primarily as a regional centre in eastern Hungary, Debrecen has increasingly positioned itself as a major economic hub, attracting both industrial investment and supporting service industries.
As the city’s business ecosystem continues to expand, companies like Pensum Group are likely to play an important role in helping employers and workers connect in an increasingly competitive labour market.
