Hungary Launches AI Start 500 to Help SMEs Adopt Artificial Intelligence

Hungary is taking another step toward accelerating digital transformation among smaller businesses with the launch of AI Start 500, a new programme designed to promote the use of artificial intelligence across the SME sector.

The initiative, introduced at the Ministry of Energy, aims to give 500 selected Hungarian small and medium-sized enterprises free access to AI tools and training, helping them integrate advanced technologies into everyday business operations.

Free Access to AI Tools

The programme is led by Hungarian technology company Peak, which will provide participating businesses with free one-year access to its EchoAI platform.

In addition to the software itself, companies will receive guidance materials, practical tips and onboarding support, enabling them to apply AI solutions effectively in their specific business environments.

The goal is not only to introduce AI tools, but to ensure that companies can use them in a meaningful and productive way.

Addressing the SME Technology Gap

According to Peak founder Márton Suppan, one of the key challenges facing small businesses is the growing gap between SMEs and larger corporations in adopting advanced technologies.

“Small businesses need support to catch up with larger companies in applying AI solutions,” he said, highlighting the importance of accessible tools and education.

While large enterprises often have the resources to invest in AI development and integration, SMEs frequently face barriers such as cost, lack of expertise and uncertainty about how to implement the technology.
